Wikipedia’s map of recent county secession referendums in Illinois. Cook County a.k.a. Chicago, green, has 40% of Illinois’ population.
SCOTUS’ disastrous 1964 Reynolds v. Sims one-man-one-vote decision destroyed states’ ability to balance their several communities via their Senates—as the U.S.’ several communities are balanced through US Senate. So e.g. rural IL, MD, NY, CA are now ruled from, and oppressed by, Chicago, Baltimore, NYC, SF-LA.
Absent a balancing Senate, the ONLY answer is state secession (e.g. Jefferson in CA, OR)….OR redrawing boundaries, which is the proposal here
Of course, these divisions are exacerbated by Third World immigration. About 20% of Chicago’s residents are foreign-born, and of course that doesn’t count their anchor-baby children.
If you haven’t been to downstate Illinois, you may not realize what a different world it is from Chicago.
It’s like…America.
Here’s another proposed salvaging of the American Illinois, advocated by the great Chicago journalist John Kass:
As A Chicago , crook county , U Chicago neighborhood born , raised and returned boy - I don t support this - IMO it s defeatist , keep running away first to the suburbs, then to the far suburbs , then to rural areas or other states .
We can t surrender all our cities , all our universities , all our former “ our churches” , our radio stations and movie studious like Walt Disney studios .
Plus rural areas even though they are still mostly white are all that great.
Farmers , agribusinesses that dominate rural areas like Cargill, Tyson Foods are iMO the worst promoters of cheap 3rd world migrant immigration . They want happy slaves that din t stay happy slaves for very long .
Plus our great cities in the past have been beautiful places of innovation , culture and well they were once “ours” .
I ve seen gays and artists move back into once written off central cities . If they can do it , so can we .

Left behind in Chicago
I'm all for it
