Trump Wants to Staple Green Cards to Foreign Student Diplomas.
Amusingly, people who care most about the issues Trump blundered on (e.g. immigration patriotism) hate him the most because he constantly forgets his lines, e.g. this dumb college degree/Green Card proposal. But the Left can’t trust him either. And there’s no alternative. pic.twitter.com/ubQBV1Ej7Q
One of the amusing things about Donald Trump, and there are a lot of amusing things about him is that it's the people who are most motivated and interested in the issues that he's raised, who hate him the most. And the reason for this is that he can never remember his lines, and he keeps wandering off topic, and he gets caught up in irrelevances. And every once in a while, he just says something completely stupid, which he's done just recently on a podcast for tech entrepreneurs, in which he called for the stapling of green cards to college degrees, and even I think he said community college degrees.
What I want to do, and what I will do, is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country. And that includes junior colleges too.
Anybody graduates from a college, you go in there for two years or four years, if you graduate or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country.
Needless to say, this was greeted with great enthusiasm by the four tech entrepreneurs who were there on the show, three of whom were immigrants. But of course, a completely dumbfoundingly stupid proposal, putting immigration policy in the hands of diploma mills and college admissions bureaucrats. And of course, knocking down the wages of Americans in STEM fields, which is why Americans tend to leave STEM fields.
The thing about this is that Trump has done it before. He did exactly the same thing in 2016. At that point, of course, Jeff Sessions was around to give him a whack on the snout and get him back on track. Now maybe Stephen Miller can do that this time. And maybe he won't.
But I think as long as Trump is allowed to go out in front of crowds and talk to them, he's going to find out this line falls very flat. And that makes a big difference to him.
This raises finally, I guess, the question, what will Trump do when and if he gets into office? And the answer is that we simply don't know. We simply don't know what he's going to do. And neither does anybody else, which is why the left is so terrified of him. Because it's quite possible he could go for an immigration moratorium or whatever popped into his head at any given point.
Once he is elected, he will no longer be dependent on the Miriam Adelson, the people who are giving him money at the moment. And he'll be less inclined to say this sort of thing. And of course, the real issue is, what's the alternative? Trump's greatest strength is Joe Biden. We don't know what Trump will do. But we do know what Joe Biden is going to do, because he's already doing it. He's going to swamp and destroy the Historic American Nation.
